Religion – A belief, a code of conduct, a faith, whatever you may call it. Most of us are associated with some religion and the population is divided into various religions and sects. However, some religions only have countable people while others have a massive population to them. Here is a list of 10 biggest religions on earth and it’s based on the number of followers for each religion
This religion is the newest among all religions in the modern world and it was originated in 1863 in Persia. Mirza Hussain who is also referred to as Baha ‘Ullah is the founder of this religion. There are more than 7 million followers of Baha’ism. The interesting thing about it is that it mixes the teaching of Christianity and Islam and presents a new combined religion for its followers.
Judaism is also a very old religion and it was originated about 3600 years before in Egypt and Israel. The founder of this religion was Abraham who was a prophet of God. There are about 14 million Jews around the world with the majority living in Israel. There are two main cults in Judaism; Reform & Conservative and Orthodox. They consider Torah to be their Holy Book.
This religion was started back in early years of 19th century and Allan Kardec is supposed to be the founder of Spiritism. There are more than 15 million believers that follow this it and it was originated in France and continued to grow with passage of time. This religion is older than 2500 years and it was founded by Lao-Tzu and it originated in China. There are more than 394 million followers of this religion and most of them belong to China. It’s not possible to count or estimate the cults in Taoism as this religion is spread around the world and there are much inter-religion believes in Taoism. There are many testaments in this religion including; Tao-Te-Ching which is the shortest book in this religion and many believers also follow the sayings by Chiang-Tsu.
Hinduism is like the most old religion in the world and there are no authentications about when it originated and where it began. There are more than 1 billion Hindus in the world but most of them live in India. There are so many founders of Hinduism and people have different approaches about the foundation. There are many books in Hinduism including Agamas, Vedas, and Gita. The main cults in Hinduism include; Smartism, Saktism, Saivism, and Vaishnavism.
This religion started 1430 years ago and it was originated in the present Saudi Arabia and it was founded by Muhammad (PBUH). Islam is the second most famous and biggest religion in the world and Muslims follow their Holy book The Quran, the Hadith and sayings, life and teaching of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). There are approximately 1.5 billion Muslims around the world. There are many sects in Islam including; Sunni, Shea, Wahabi, and Ahle-Hadith.
